The UP Lady Fighting Maroons continued their impressive play, sealing a third place finish in the UAAP 81 Beach Volleyball tournament at the Sands SM By The Bay.
Just weeks after being crowned as the Philippine Volleyball League champions, the Maroons had another stretch of dominant performance in the opening salvo of UAAP Season 81 volleyball.
UP outlasted the FEU Lady Tamaraws, Adamson Lady Falcons, and UE Lady Warriors to end the eliminations with a 3-4 record. Tied with Ateneo at fourth place, the team forced a playoff match against the Lady Eagles for the lone slot left in the Final Four.
Isa Molde, Justine Dorog, and Rosie Rosier secured a close win against the Katipunan-based squad to setup a do-or-die semifinal match against the NU Lady Bulldogs.
UP came in ready, starting their Final Four campaign with a come-from-behind win against NU. The Bulldogs started hot, but UP picked up the pace with a tight set two win before dismantling NU in the third, 15-6. The victory secured UP of a podium finish.
The ladies put up a tough fight against second-ranked DLSU Lady Spikers who had a twice-to-beat advantage.
Molde, Dorog, and Rosier played inspired volleyball, tying that match at one set apiece. They eventually lost the game with a score of 21-16, 24-26, and 15-9.
The impressive run of the UPWVT in the Beach Volleyball tournament, bagging third place, is another proof that the Lady Maroons are definite contenders in the coming UAAP 81 Volleyball.
Awarding ceremonies of the UAAP Season 81 Beach Volleyball tournament will be tomorrow at Sands SM By The Bay.
