Things didn’t go the UP Lady Fighting Maroons’ way as the Ateneo Lady Eagles handed them their second loss of the season.
UP looked a bit lost in their first face-off with neighbors ADMU, as the opposing end of the Battle of Katipunan had a three-straight-set win. UP put on a tough fight but couldn’t get things going.
The UPWVT had a slight advantage early in the first set, 11-13. But Ateneo didn’t let up — the squad from Loyola put up a run to lead heading to the FTT, 16-14.
Since then, the Eagles never looked back.
The first set continued with a tight back-and-forth, but ADMU came out on top — 25-21.
The second had Ateneo leading from the get go to end the set, 25-15.
The third set saw a grittier Maroons. With Marian Buitre added to the mix, UP kept it very tight.
The third was the closest set of the entire match as both teams took turns with the set point. Marist Layug and Ayie Gannaban helped keep UP within striking distance. However, it was ADMU who came out on top, 28-26.
Tots Carlos led UP with 10, while Gannaban added 7. Buitre, Layug and Isa Molde had 6 points each.
The Lady Maroons will face the NU Lady Bulldogs next on Wednesday (March 13), 4pm.
