UAAP 81: UP ends first week of Beach Volleyball with straight wins

The UP Lady Fighting Maroons have picked up the pace in Beach Volleyball as they start their bid for volleyball dominance in the UAAP Season 81.

Fresh off their championship run in the PVL, UP couldn’t shake off the jitters as they started slow in the tournament held at the Sands SM By The Bay. The struggle was evident as the team lost their first two matches, bowing down to UST and NU.

Isa Molde, Justine Dorog, and Rosie Rosier were able to pick up the pace in their following matches. The trio entered the win column at the expense of the FEU Lady Tamaraws. The ladies toppled FEU’s Ivana Agudo and Marianne Calinawan in two straight sets, 21-18, 21-11.

The veterans ended last week’s games on a strong note with another win. Down a set, Molde and Dorog bounced back against Adamson University to score their second win in four games. The match ended with 19-21, 21-13, and 12-12.

The ladies aim to finish in the final four and continue to train throughout the weekend in preparation for next week’s games.

The UPWVT will have three more matches this coming week before the UAAP Beach Volleyball semi-finals kick off. UP is scheduled to face the Ateneo Lady Eagles’ Ponggay Gaston and Jules Samonte on Tuesday (Oct. 2). On the same day, they will also face-off with the UE Lady Warriors.

To end the elimination round, Molde, Dorog, and Rosier will go up against Tin Tiamzon, Michelle Morente, and May Luna of the DLSU Lady Spikers on Friday (Oct 5).
