PVL: UP dominates San Sebastian in Three-set Win

The UP Lady Fighting Maroons demolished the San Sebastian Lady Stags in today’s Premier Volleyball League match at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

After a disappointing loss to the UST Growling Tigresses last Sunday, the UPWVT bounced right back up with a convincing win against the Lady Stags.

Marian Buitre started strong to give UP an early double-digit lead, 15-5. SSC-R rallied back to score a 7-2 run, 17-12. However, the Diliman-based squad didn’t let up and came back with a run of its own, scoring the next five points and eventually sealing the first set W, 25-15.

The second set was no different as UP continued to muscle its way, leading all throughout. The Stags came close, 12-9, but the Maroons kept their composure to bag another set.

The third saw Isa Molde, Lorie Bernardo, and the rest of the Lady Fighting Maroons serve spike after spike to end the match with a three-set win.

Buitre led the UPWVT with 10 points, while Ayel Estrañero added 8. Bernardo also had a strong outing in her first year with the team, adding 10 points to help the team score the victory.

San Sebastian’s Joyce Sta. Rita produced 7 points but it wasn’t enough as the Stags never scored more than 16 in the game.

The UP Women’s Volleyball Team will be facing the Adamson Lady Falcons next on Sunday (Aug 12), 4pm at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

FINAL SCORE:
UP: 25, 25, 25
SSC-R: 15, 13, 16
