The Adamson Lady Falcons have forced a do-or-die match on Sunday after securing Game 2 of the Premier Volleyball League Semifinals. ADU defeated the UP Lady Fighting Maroons in three sets.
UP started strong, keeping it very close with both teams taking turns in scoring. The Maroons, however, found its groove mid-set, putting up a 6-0 run to stay ahead of the Falcons.
After a lackluster performance in Game 1, Isa Molde was able to find her groove today to help the team stay tied late in the set, 23-all. ADU, who experienced its first loss of the league in Game 1, was able to adjust and secure set 1, 23-25.
The second set had the same story. The Lady Fighting Maroons kept up with the top-seeded team until the middle of the set. However, a strong showing by Eli Soyud gave the Ermita-based team fuel to bag another one, 19-25.
After a powerful 25-point performance in the last game, the Falcons made sure to slowdown Marian Buitre in today’s match, keeping her to just 7 markers.
Molde and Rosie Rosier led UP with 8 points each, while Marist Layug added 6.
The Falcons took over set 3 from the get go. UP tried to crawl back with short runs. Led by Molde, Layug, and Rosier, the Maroons were able to narrow it down to just two points. But Adamson’s momentum proved to be too much to overcome.
The UPWVT will have another chance to close out the best-of-three semifinal series tomorrow (Sept. 2), 2pm at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
